Privacy Policy

Introduction

外港 HK OUTPORT ("we", "us", "the site") respects your privacy. This page explains, in plain terms, what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices and rights you have.

1. Who we are

外港 HK OUTPORT is operated by HKOUTPORT LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales. We are the "data controller" for the personal data described in this policy — meaning we decide why and how it's processed.

2. How you sign in

The site uses Google Sign-In only — there are no passwords. Our app only asks Google for the email permission; we don't request access to your Drive, Calendar, contacts, or anything else.

What Google's own sign-in screen shows you: when you sign in, Google's account screen may say that HK OUTPORT can access your name, profile photo, and email address. That disclosure comes from Google itself, not from anything we ask for — every app that offers "Sign in with Google" shows this same baseline identity information the first time you grant it access, because a valid sign-in requires an identity token, and Google discloses your basic profile as part of issuing one. It isn't something any app can turn off, and it usually only appears once per Google account.

Regardless of what that screen shows, HK OUTPORT itself never reads, stores, or uses your name or profile photo. Our server-side code only ever looks at two things from your Google sign-in: your unique Google account ID (used internally to recognise your account on future logins) and your email address. If you'd like to double-check for yourself, visit Google's own Account permissions page — it shows exactly which permission HK OUTPORT was granted (just your email address), independent of anything we say here.

3. What we store

We do not store your name or profile photo, even though Google's own sign-in screen may mention them (see above).

4. Why we process your data

We only process personal data where we have a lawful basis to do so:

5. What we don't do

6. Cookies and local storage

We do not currently use cookies. The app does store a small amount of data directly on your own device — using your browser's local storage, not a cookie — to keep you signed in, remember your light/dark mode choice, and remember which posts you've "parked" locally. This data stays on your device and is never sent to us as a "cookie."

We're including this section in case that changes: if we introduce cookies in future, they would be used only to improve website performance and your experience (for example, remembering settings or basic, non-invasive analytics) — never for advertising or cross-site tracking. If we do, we'll update this policy and ask for your consent for anything not strictly necessary to run the site, as required by UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations).

7. How long we keep your data

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account (see below), we'll delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period — we aim for 30 days — except where we need to keep limited records for longer to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce these Terms (for example, records relevant to a ban for abuse).

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR), you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, or if you have any concerns about how we handle your data, email [email protected].

9. Children's privacy

HK OUTPORT is intended for people aged 16 and over (see the Terms of Service's "Eligibility" section). We don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has created an account, please contact us and we'll remove it.

10. Disconnecting your account

You can revoke HK OUTPORT's access from your Google Account at any time. Please note: since Google Sign-In is the only way to log in, disconnecting means you will no longer be able to sign back into that HK OUTPORT account. Your existing posts and comments stay on the site as they are — you just won't be able to sign in to edit or delete them unless you reconnect with the same Google account.

11. Requesting account deletion

If you'd like us to delete your account data, email [email protected] and we'll follow up.

12. Other service providers

The site relies on the following providers to operate. They may process basic connection information (such as IP addresses) for security purposes, but not for any other purpose:

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this page from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above, and where a change is significant we'll try to give you reasonable notice on the site.

Terms of Service

Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of 外港 HK OUTPORT (the "service", "site"), operated by HKOUTPORT LIMITED ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or otherwise using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. About the service

HK OUTPORT is a community forum where users can share information, start discussions, and read what others have posted, organised by "Port" and category. We also run a Hong Konger Shop List — a directory intended to help users find nearby Hong Konger–run shops. See "The Hong Konger Shop List" below for terms specific to that feature.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or post on HK OUTPORT. By using the service you confirm that you meet this requirement. Browsing publicly visible content doesn't require an account or any age check.

3. Accounts

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use HK OUTPORT to post or do any of the following:

5. Your content

You keep ownership of whatever you post. By posting content on HK OUTPORT, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, and display that content, solely for the purpose of operating and promoting the service (for example, showing your post to other users, or a screenshot of the site in a blog post about it). You confirm that you have the right to post whatever you submit, and that doing so doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.

6. Moderation and enforcement

The platform has full control over what stays up and who can use it. We may, at our sole discretion, remove or edit any content, and suspend or terminate any account, that we believe breaches these Terms, the law, or is otherwise harmful to the community — including content that isn't unlawful but that we judge to be spam, misleading, or disruptive. Where practical we'll try to let you know why action was taken, but for serious issues (illegal content, safety risks, abuse) we may act immediately and without prior notice. Moderation decisions are made by us and are final.

Reporting content

If you come across content you believe breaks these Terms or the law, please report it to [email protected] with a link or description of the content and why you're reporting it. We aim to review reports promptly, though we can't guarantee a specific response time.

If you believe something posted about you is defamatory

If you believe a post or comment is defamatory of you, you can ask us to deal with it under the process set out in the UK's Defamation (Operators of Websites) Regulations 2013. Email [email protected] with: your name, the exact content you're complaining about (with a link), why you say it's defamatory, and whether you're happy for your complaint to be passed on to the person who posted it. We'll handle your complaint in line with that process and the statutory timeframes it sets out.

7. The Hong Konger Shop List

Shop listings are provided for general information only, whether submitted by shop owners, submitted by other users, or compiled by us. We do not verify, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy, quality, safety, legality, or current operating status of any listed shop or its goods or services. Any purchase, booking, visit, or other interaction with a listed shop is solely between you and that shop — HK OUTPORT is not a party to it, and we accept no liability for any transaction, dispute, loss, or injury arising from it. Please use your own judgement and do your own checks before relying on a listing.

8. Intellectual property

The HK OUTPORT name, logo, and site design belong to HKOUTPORT LIMITED (or our licensors). Nothing in these Terms gives you a licence to use our name, logo, or branding without our written permission.

9. Third-party links

Posts, shop listings, or the site itself may link to third-party websites (including shops' own websites or social media). We don't control, and aren't responsible for, the content, policies, or practices of any third-party site.

10. No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any content on it is accurate or reliable. To the extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, express or implied, in connection with the service.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HKOUTPORT LIMITED will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential loss, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be limited or excluded under the laws of England and Wales.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify HKOUTPORT LIMITED against any claim, loss, or expense arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the service.

13. Termination

You can stop using the service, or ask us to delete your account, at any time (see the Privacy Policy's "Requesting account deletion"). We may suspend or terminate your access as described under "Moderation and enforcement" above. Some provisions of these Terms — including intellectual property, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law — continue to apply after your account is closed.

14. Changes to the service

We may add, change, or discontinue any feature of the service — including Ports, categories, or the Shop List — at any time.

15. Modification of these Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make a material change, we'll give reasonable notice — for example, a notice on the site or an update to the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of HK OUTPORT after a change takes effect means you accept the modified Terms; if you don't agree with a change, please stop using the service.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms, and any dispute arising from them or from your use of the service, are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If a disagreement comes up, please contact us at [email protected] and we'll do our best to sort it out.
